Biography
George was born in Thessaloniki in 1963. He holds a Geology Degree (Patras Uni., Greece, 1986), a M.Sc. in engineering geology (Durham Uni., UK, 1987) and a Ph.D. for his work on geotechnical intrinsic properties of Greek marls at the School of Engineering, Durham Uni., UK (1993). He served the Greek Corp of Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant in heavy earthworks machines (1993 – 1995). George worked in the tunnelling of Athens Metro central lines 2 and 3 (Attiko Metro SA, 1995 – 1998), in the construction, technical monitoring and design contract management of railway infrastructure projects in Greece (Ergose SA, 1998 – 2012). George moved to the Ministry of Environment and Energy and joined the hydrocarbons upstream team, jointly managing the acquisition of new seismic data, evaluating offers for the 2012 Open Door round and preparing for the 2nd International Tender in off-shore W. Greece and S. Crete. George joined Deutsche Bahn Engineering and Consulting GmbH in 2015 as geotechnical expert in the world class Doha Metro project in Qatar. In September 2018 he returned to the Ministry and now heads the Geothermal Energy Department at the Directorate General of Mineral Raw Materials.
