Biography
Mr. Dimitris Sarantopoulos is Natural Gas Business Unit Manager in HERON ENERGY (GEK TERNA Group), head of the commercial activities in the supply and sales of natural gas along with the development of renewable gases projects in biomethane and hydrogen.
HERON ENERGY is a leader (2nd biggest) in the supply and sales of natural gas in Greece with B2B gas market share above 23%, providing, for more than 7 years, innovative solutions in both natural gas (pipe gas and LNG) and renewable gases supply (biomethane and hydrogen).
In parallel, he is Member of the Board of Directors in THERMOILEKTRIKI KOMOTINIS (JV of GEK TERNA & MOTOR OIL RENEWABLE ENERGY groups and the company which constructs a Combined Cycle Power Plant of 877MW in Komotini) and member of GEK TERNA business development team for the concession tender for the Underground Gas Storage Facility of South Kavala.
He has extensive experience in energy sector for more than 18 years, having worked in multinational and Greek corporations in USA and Europe. In parallel, he has served as senior consultant for energy policy and energy regulatory issues for more than 6 years.
He worked in GENERAL ELECTRIC ENERGY in USA and Europe in the engineering and construction of power generation plants. He started his career in technical consulting, then he moved to J&P AVAX in the engineering and construction of energy projects in Cyprus and Greece and afterwards he worked as Engineering Manager of BIG SOLAR company responsible for the engineering and design of renewable energy projects.
He joined HERON ENERGY back to 2010 initially as Maintenance Manager of HERON I&II Gas Fired Power Plants (600 MW) and the last 7 years is the Head of Natural Gas Business Unit responsible for the natural gas commercial activities and renewable gases projects (biomethane, hydrogen) in HERON ENERGY.
He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from National Technical University of Athens, a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, and an MBA International in Finance from Athens University of Economics & Business.
Finally, Mr. Dimitris Sarantopoulos is the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award from the Athens University of Economics & Business – MBA International for the establishment and the initiatives of Energy & Sustainability Club, the 1st academic based energy think tank in Greece which created an innovative knowledge exchange platform among academia, energy market participants and the regulatory authorities, with conferences, invited speaker series, working papers and numerous other initiatives.
