Flora Karathanasi
Offshore Wind Programme Lead
HEREMA
Dr. Flora Karathanasi is the Offshore Wind Programme Lead at the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) S.A, carrying extensive professional and research experience. She began her studies at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), from where she received a B.Sc. degree in Rural and Surveying Engineering, and continued her academic career at the same university acquiring M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Marine and Ocean Science & Technology. As a Ph.D. candidate, Dr. Karathanasi was awarded a scholarship from the Special Account for Research Grants of NTUA and, between 2014 and 2020, worked as a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).
Her research interests include marine observations from buoys, assessment studies of marine renewable energy resources, long-term modelling of metocean climate, extreme value analysis of metocean parameters, and numerical simulation. She has participated in numerous EU- and Greek-funded research projects, has over 25 peer-reviewed publications, and is a regular reviewer for major journals and conference publications.
In addition to leading HEREMA’s Offshore Wind Programme, Dr. Karathanasi is also Assistant Scientist at the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) and Acting Head of the Cyprus Marine Observation Network (CyMON). In that latter capacity, she leads a project for the development of a prototype marine observation network around Cyprus (CyMON Infrastructure Development).
